@NanooksHockey Opens 2020 at #3 Minnesota State

MANKATO, Minn. – The Alaska Nanooks are in Mankato, Minn. getting set to take on the #3-ranked Mavericks. This two game series will be the first of the new year for both sides.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks have not been on the ice in over a month for a game. Now that the holiday season has past, the 'Nooks look to break through in a big way for the second half of the season. Before the break, the Alaska squad travelled to Bemidji State for one last showdown with the Beavers. In game one, BSU grabbed a 1-3 victory over Alaska. 
 
In game two, the Nanooks turned things around in big fashion as they piled on five goals, taking game two, 5-3. Colton Leiter and Justin Young both scored two goals in the win while Steven Jandric picked up the first four-point game by a Nanook since 2015. 
 
Scouting the Opponent – Minnesota State Mavericks
 
The Mavericks come into this weekend's matchup as the #3 team in the nation according to both the USCHO and USA Today Polls. They are led in the points category by Marc Michaelis who has totaled 23 points through their 19 games. He has picked up 11 goals and 12 assists and has a +7 while on the ice. Just behind Michaelis is Parker Tuomie who has 18 points on the season. He has scored eight goals and assisted on 10 others.
 
In goal, the Nanooks will have to go up against one of the nations top netminders, Dryden McKay. McKay has stopped 409 shots, giving him a .947 save percentage through 19 games played and 16 starts. He also allows only an average of 1.28 goals per game. He holds a 15-2 record while in net for the Mavericks.
