BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team defeated the Ferris State Bulldogs on Friday, Jan. 17, 2-0, earning a big three points in WCHA play, moving them to 12-12-1, 10-8-1-0 WCHA.
 
Period one went the way of Ferris State despite no goals being scored. Alaska ended up in the penalty box three times, totaling six minutes compared to the one penalty that ended the period with the 'Nooks on the power play. Anton Martinsson was a wall in net early for the 'Nooks, stopping all 12 shots sent his way in the first period, with some of his biggest saves coming late when the Bulldogs put a flurry of shots on goal with just over two minutes remaining. 
 
To end the first, the Nanooks took a power play into the second period for the first minute and a half. Unfortunately they did not capitalize, however, they did capitalize over half-way through the period when Steven Jandric found the back of the net 13:34 from the slot after taking a pass from his brother, Chris Jandric. Tyler Cline picked up the secondary assist on the Alaska goal, his eighth of the season. 
 
Anton Martinsson had himself another busy day in goal, stopping a total of 35 shots on goal, picking up his fifth career shutout and the Nanooks second in their last three games. The Nanooks net-minder stopped double-digit shot in all three periods, including 11 in the final 20 minutes. 
 
With 17 seconds left in the third period and the game, Max Newton won a face-off in the Nanooks zone, sending the puck to the neutral zone before Tyler Cline grabbed the loose puck after a Ferris State defender fell and put away the puck for the game-clinching goal. 
 
The Nanooks and Bulldogs play again tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2:07 p.m. AKT as the 'Nooks look for back-to-back weekends with points from both games.
