Last Time Out
The Nanooks are coming off of their first weekend with more than three points since their first matchup with Michigan Tech earlier this season. Lake Superior State came to Fairbanks on Jan. 10-11 for their lone matchup with the 'Nooks this season and Alaska was able to grab four points on the weekend.
On night one, the Nanooks were able to grab a 2-0 win behind goals by
Logan Coomes and
James LaDouce. Coomes struck first in the third period, only three and a half minutes into the final period for his first goal in a Nanooks jersey. With only 30 seconds remaining in regulation, LaDouce ended the ballgame with a 160-foot goal, sending a shot from past the other blue line to the back of the empty net. Gustavs Grigals also picked up his first career shutout in the win, stopping all 28 shots thrown his way.
Game two saw the Nanooks keep the momentum for the first 53 minutes as they jumped out to an early 1-0 lead behind a
Kylar Hope goal. Unfortunately for the 'Nooks and Grigals, the scoreless streak came to an end with six and a half minutes remaining in the third period when LSSU found the equalizer. The game would go on to end in an official tie, but in the second OT period, while playing 3v3 hockey, the Lakers grabbed an extra point after Pete Veillette scored one and a half minutes into the extra period.
