FAIRBANKS, Alaska – On Tuesday, Alaska Nanooks volleyball head coach Brian Scott announced the additions of Colleen File, Eden Murchison, AveRee Reynolds and Sophie Schilling, who have each signed their National Letters of Intent to join the Nanooks in the fall of 2019. File, Murchison and Schilling will arrive on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus as freshmen, while Reynolds will come in as a junior transfer.

Colleen File
5'7" | OH/DS | Hometown: Woodinville, Wash. | Previous Team: Washington Volleyball Academy | Previous School: Woodinville High School | Projected Major: Undecided
File comes to the Nanooks after playing four years of varsity volleyball for Woodinville High School. Throughout her time at WHS, File was named a King County 4A All-League Honorable Mention following the 2016-17 season before being selected to the King County 4A All-League First Team after the completion of the 2017-18 season. File was also named the team's Most Valuable Player and the team captain for the 2017-18 season.

Coach Scott: "Colleen is going to be a great fit for our program. She is a talented volleyball athlete that has played in multiple positions and can contribute to improving the competitiveness in our gym in many ways. She has a great demeanor and will add to the cohesive nature of our returning student-athletes. She is also an excellent student, who values the effort on the academic side of being an athlete."

Eden Murchison
6'1" | OH | Hometown: Zebulon, Ga. | Previous Team & School: Pike County High School | Projected Major: Engineering
Murchison will arrive on the UAF campus in August having played four years of varsity volleyball for Pike County High School in Georgia. Murchison was an AAA All-Area Honorable Mention (2015), a two-time AAA All-Area Team selection (2016, 2017) before becoming the AAA All-Area Player of the Year in 2018. This past season, Murchison also served as the team's captain. In the classroom, Murchison is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars.

Coach Scott: "Eden is a long, athletic athlete with a heavy arm. Her size will make her an intimidating block immediately. In addition to her athletic ability, Eden is someone who takes her studies very seriously. She has shown discipline on the court and in the classroom and been able to excel in both."

AveRee Reynolds
6'1" | RS | Hometown: Petersboro, Utah | Previous Team & School: Eastern Arizona College (ACCAC) | Projected Major: Secondary Education
The only transfer of the group, Reynolds comes to the Nanooks after spending two years at Eastern Arizona College in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. Last season, Reynolds appeared in 28 matches for the Gilas, averaging 2.31 kills per set, 3.89 assists per set, 1.92 digs per set and 0.98 blocks per set. Reynolds tallied 106 total blocks throughout the 2018 campaign, ranking her second in the conference, while also boasting 17 solo blocks (3rd in the ACCAC) and 89 block assists (2nd in the ACCAC). Reynolds was a NJCAA First Team All-American and an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American last season.

Coach Scott: "AveRee has established herself as a true competitor. She has excelled as a high school standout and followed it up as an NJCAA All-American. AveRee grew up on the volleyball court and it shows in her ability to play. We are excited for the depth and competitiveness she will bring to our gym.

Sophie Schilling
6'1" | MB | Hometown: Berlin, Germany | Previous Team: SG Rotation Prenzlauer Berg | Previous School: Schul-und Leistungssportzentrum | Projected Major: Psychology
Schilling comes to the Nanooks as a two-time national champion, having won the U-18 German National Championship title with SG Rotation Prenzlauer Berg in 2015 before most recently becoming the U-20 German National Champion with the same program. Schilling becomes the second international student-athlete under Scott's tutelage, following the footsteps of Alaska Nanooks junior Lahra Weber, who also hails from Berlin.

Coach Scott: "Sophie is a standout middle blocker and will be a great addition to our group of middles. She comes from the same competitive club in Germany as Lahra and should be able to adapt to our level of play quickly. Sophie is very good at attacking on the side and we look forward to using that strength.

The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team had a historic 2018 season, posting an overall record of 14-13, going 12-8 in conference play. Alaska's overall 14 wins is the most within a single-season under fourth-year head coach Brian Scott and also marked the most overall wins and the first winning season since the 2008 campaign (15-10). Furthermore, Alaska's 12 conference wins is the most since the 2003 season (13-5 GNAC).

Following the conclusion of the season, Lahra Weber and Cate Whiting were named to the All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference First Team, while Kim Wong earned her second-straight All-GNAC Honorable Mention.
