Scott Tabs Alumni Olsen as @NanooksVB Assistant Coach

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – On Wednesday, Alaska Nanooks volleyball head coach Brian Scott officially announced the addition of Meagan Olsen to his staff, who will serve as the program's assistant coach. Olsen's first official day at the Patty Center will be Monday, July 1.

9334Olsen, a hometown product of Fairbanks, becomes Scott's second assistant coaching hire since taking over the program in 2015. Olsen replaces Robbie Berrett, who resigned from the Alaska Nanooks volleyball staff earlier this month. Olsen's main responsibilities will include a focus on defense, recruiting and game management.

"I feel very fortunate to have Meagan rejoin our program as an assistant coach," Scott said on Wednesday. "As an athlete, Meagan exemplified what we wanted out of our student-athletes. She was diligent in her studies, came to practice ready to work hard and was always hungry to learn as much as possible. I expect she will be able to inspire the same qualities in our student-athletes as a coach."

Olsen returns to the Nanooks after serving as the team's volunteer assistant for the 2017 season. Throughout her first season on the bench, Olsen helped lead the Nanooks to a 12-14 record overall, going 5-15 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

Prior to coaching, Olsen was a member of the Alaska Nanooks volleyball team from 2012-16. Following a redshirt season in 2012, Olsen went on to appear in 93 matches and 318 sets in the Blue and Gold. The defensive specialist/libero tallied 884 digs, 107 assists, 32 aces and five kills throughout her four-year career.

Olsen has left her mark on Alaska Nanooks volleyball, ranking 10th in the program's all-time records book for most digs in a single season (409 in 2016) and career digs (884 from 2013-16).

As a member of the Nooks, Olsen was a three-time GNAC All-Academic Team selection and the team's co-captain for the 2016 season.

"It is very exciting to have someone that if from Fairbanks to work with the team," Scott concluded. "Meagan knows how much volleyball means to the community and will help us strengthen our ties to our alumni and our faithful Fairbanks crowd."

Olsen graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.

The Alaska Nanooks will host their annual Blue vs. Gold scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 23 before officially kicking-off the 2019 season at the Colorado School of Mines Classic on Friday, Sept. 6 against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Mountain Lions in Golden, Colorado.
