COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Freshman, Kellen McAferty made an impressive showing at the 2019 Men's Junior Olympic Championships last week. The Washington native collected top ten finishes in both disciplines.

Over the two days of smallbore qualification McAferty recorded a total of 2313, placing him in third going into the final.

In the final, the top eight athletes shoot in a head-to-head competition to win points that will then be added to their total score. McAferty recorded a world class finals score of 453.3 to win the final. With the victory he earned eight finals points which secured his placement in third with a final aggregate score of 2321.

Along with his podium finish, McAferty earned a spot on the USA Shooting Junior National Team as well as an invitation to compete at the 2019 Junior World Shooting Championships in Suhl, Germany in July.

In the air rifle competition McAferty recorded a 1230.6, placing him in tenth.
