WCHA Release
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – On Monday, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, through Northern Michigan University President and Men's League Chairman, Dr. Fritz Erickson and Men's League Commissioner Bill Robertson, announced that four members of the Alaska Nanooks hockey team were selected as WCHA Scholar-Athletes for the 2018-19 season.
Per the WCHA release, "to earn the recognition as a WCHA Scholar-Athlete, conference-member student-athletes must have completed at least one year of residency at their present institution prior to the current academic year and must also have a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for the previous two semesters or three quarters, or may qualify if his overall GPA is at least a 3.50 for all terms at his present institution."
Eighty-four conference-member student-athletes from the men's division make up the 14th annual group of WCHA Scholar-Athletes, as the award was developed through member teams' Faculty Athletic Representatives and was approved by the league in the 2005-06 season. Forty-two of this season's 84 recipients are repeat honorees, including junior goaltender
Anton Martinsson, who is a two-time honoree, while senior defenseman
Nikolas Koberstein is one of 19 three-time selectees.
