@NanooksWBB Hosts Wildcats, Nighthawks in Final Games of the Season

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team hosts their final two games of the 2018-19 season this week, taking on the Central Washington Wildcats on Thursday, Feb. 28 before facing the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks on Saturday, Mar. 2. Both Great Northwest Athletic Conference contests will take place at the Alaska Airlines Court, with tip-off set for 7pm AKST on Thursday and 1pm AKST on Saturday.

Senior Night
The Alaska Nanooks will be honoring their four seniors prior to Saturday's tip-off against Northwest Nazarene, thanking #11 Ashlie Blackburn, #22 Emily Evans, #12 Angela Murnion and #44 Marian Wamsley.

Last Time Out
The Nooks lost a pair of road contests last week, falling 66-56 to the Saint Martin's Saints on Thursday before dropping Saturday's game 67-60 to Seattle Pacific. The two losses extends Alaska's losing-streak to three games.

Ranked Nooks
Three Nanooks rank within the top-10 individually in seven different statistical categories: All-Time Series
Against the Central Washington Wildcats, the Nanooks trail the all-time series 13-39 with the first meeting between the two teams coming as a 78-58 loss for the Nanooks on the road on Feb. 15, 1977. The Nooks are currently on a four-game losing streak to the Wildcats with their last win being a 69-56 victory at home on Jan. 14, 2017. In their last meeting in Ellensburg, Alaska fell 76-61.

All-time against the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks, Alaska trails 6-31. The first meeting between the two teams resulted in a 95-81 loss for the Nanooks on the road. The Nanooks are currently on an eight-game losing streak against NNU with their last win coming as an 82-76 decision at home on Jan. 3, 2015. In their last meeting in Nampa, Alaska fell 92-53.

Scouting the Opponent – Central Washington
The Wildcats played three games last week, earning a victory against Western Washington before falling to Northwest Nazarene and Simon Fraser. The 77-66 win against WWU clinched a berth to the GNAC Championships next week. The team is defending at one of the highest rates in the country, including a figure of 4.5 blocks per game, ranking them first in the GNAC.

Scouting the Opponent – Northwest Nazarene
The Nighthawks won all three games last week, extending their streak to eight games. NNU defeated Central Washington before blowing out Simon Fraser 84-61 and Western Washington 85-71 to close-out the week. The Nighthawks are ranked No. 5 in the latest WBCA Division II Coaches Poll and No. 6 in the D2SIDA Poll.
