LACEY, Wash. – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team fell in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action on the road on Thursday, dropping a 66-56 decision to the Saint Martin's Saint at the Marcus Pavilion. The loss drops Alaska's overall record to 4-19 and 1-16 in conference play, while the Saints improve to 6-19 on the season and 4-13 in league games.
Inside the Box Score
- Despite outscoring their opponent 21-13 in the first quarter, Alaska was held to only three points in the second quarter with the Saints outscoring the Nooks 23-3.
- The third quarter proved to be a stalemate with both teams earning 14 points, but Alaska's 18 points to SMU's 16 in the final 10 minutes of the game wasn't enough to overcome the deficit made in the second quarter.
- Alaska shot 38.1 percent from the floor (24-for-63), 18.8 percent from three-point range (3-for-16) and 71.4 percent from the free throw line (5-for-7).
- The Nanooks also outdid their opponent around the board, picking up 36 to Saint Martin's 33.
- Alaska was able to pull down 15 offensive rebounds and 21 defensive rebounds.
- The Nooks also picked up 11 assists, 13 steals and three blocks.
Alaska Leaders
- Senior Marian Wamsley registered her third double-double of the season, posting a team-best 15 points and also a game-high 10 rebounds.
- Wamsley shot 7-for-13 from the floor and 1-for-1 from the free throw line to tally her 15 points, while also adding two steals, one block and one assist on the night.
- The Valdez, Alaska native also pulled down three offensive and seven defensive rebounds for her 10 rebounds, which ties her season-high.
- Senior forward Ashlie Blackburn was the only other Alaska player to score double-digit figures on Thursday, shooting 6-for-13 from the floor to produce 12 points.
- Blackburn also picked up two blocks and one assist in only 15 minutes on the floor.
- Senior guard Emily Evans tied for a game-high three assists.
