Nanooks of the Week
Female: Kaia Norbye, Swim – Norbye is the new record holder in the 100-yard breaststroke after breaking the old school record at the Pepperdine Winter Invite two weekends ago.
Male: Steven Jandric, Hockey – Jandric was named the Nanook of the week after his four-point performance against Bemidji State this past weekend. This was the first four-point performance by a 'Nook since the 2015-16 season.

Men's Basketball, 3-7, 2-0 GNAC

The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team is coming off of a great start to the GNAC schedule. They defeated previously undefeated Western Oregon on Thursday, Dec. 5, giving them a 1-0 start to the GNAC season. In game two, the 'Nooks defeated the Cavaliers of Concordia behind 43 and 33 points from junior-transfers, Markel Banks and Shadeed Shabazz. Shabazz was named the GNAC Player of the Week this week after his 27 and 43 point performances in the wins. The men head into Christmas break tied for the top of the GNAC and won't be back in action until Jan. 2 of 2020 when they start the new-year on the road at Saint Martin's and Seattle Pacific.

Women's Basketball, 6-5, 1-1 GNAC

The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team split this past weekend against Western Oregon and Concordia, pulling out a big comeback win against the Wolves on Thursday before their comeback attempt on Saturday, Dec. 7 fell just short against the Cavs. Jocelyn Gandara led the scoring in both games, scoring 27 in game one and putting up 34 in the loss to CU. Her efforts got her named the GNAC Women's Player of the Week this week. Her first award of the year. The women also head into Christmas break after last weekend and will open the new-year at Saint Martin's and Seattle Pacific, hitting the road with the men's team.

Hockey, 10-10-0, 8-6-0-0 WCHA
LAST: at BSU (L, W) | NEXT: at Mankato on 1/3/2020 and 1/4/2020
The Alaska Nanooks hockey team grabbed their eighth straight split this past weekend in Bemidji, Minn. The Nanooks fell in game one 1-3 before rebounding in a big way the next day, grabbing a 5-3 victory over the Beavers. The 'Nooks were led by Steven Jandric, Colton Leiter and Justin Young. Jandric scored one goal and assisted on three others for four points. Leiter scored two goals and Young also grabbed two goals and assisted on another. The Nanooks take a .500 record into the Christmas break and will be back in action on Jan. 3-4 when they head to Mankato, Minn. to take on the current #1 team in the nation, Minnesota State.

Skiing
LAST: Nordic Cup at UAA | NEXT: at U.S. National Championships
The Nordic ski team at Alaska opened up their season with the Nordic Cup in Fishhook, Alaska and Government Peak. They took on the Seawolves but fell on both days as UAA grabbed the Nordic Cup for a third straight year. All athletes competed this past weekend. The Nanooks will train over break but will not compete until Jan. 2 as a group of athletes will represent Alaska at the U.S. National Championships in Houghton, Mich.
