Clan Tops @NanooksWBB 59-46

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team fell in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 59-46 decision to the Simon Fraser Clan at the Alaska Airlines Court. The loss drops Alaska's overall record to 3-7 and 0-4 in GNAC play, while the Clan improve to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in league matchups.

GNAC Standings
The Nanooks sit tied for 10th in the GNAC standings with Concordia (0-4 GNAC), while Simon Fraser sits tied for sixth with a 2-2 conference mark. Alaska's upcoming opponents, Alaska Anchorage and Montana State Billings, rank fifth and tied for sixth, respectively.

Inside the Box Score
  • The Nooks shot 37.5 percent from the floor (18-for-48), 27.3 percent from three-point range (3-for-11) and 43.8 percent from the free throw line (7-for-16).
  • The Nanooks pulled down seven offensive and 29 defensive rebounds to total 36 boards on the day.
  • The Nooks also chipped in 10 assists and seven steals.
  • Alaska's best quarter proved to be the second, as the Nooks outscored their opponent 17-13.
Alaska Leaders
  • Senior forward Marian Wamsley led all Nanooks in scoring on Saturday, posting a team-high 16 points.
  • Wamsley shot 7-for-12 from the floor, 1-for-1 from beyond the arc and 1-for-2 from the free throw line.
  • The Valdez, Alaska native also picked up seven rebounds and one assist in 30 minutes on the court.
  • Sophomore guard Kaylyn Kelly led her teammates in assists, collecting three against the Clan.
  • Redshirt-junior guard Sabrina Ungaro posted three steals on Saturday, a team-high.
Next Time Out
The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will play a home-and-home series next week, traveling 365 miles south to take on in-state rival Alaska Anchorage on Tuesday, Jan. 8 before returning to Fairbanks to host the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Tuesday's game in Anchorage will take place at the Alaska Airlines Center at 7pm AKST, while Saturday's game in Fairbanks vs. MSUB will be at the Alaska Airlines Court at 3pm AKST.
