Seawolves top @NanooksWBB 81-70 in GNAC contest

Box Score ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team fell to in-state rival Alaska Anchorage on Tuesday, losing a 81-70 road contest at the Alaska Airlines Center. The loss drops Alaska's overall record to 3-8 overall and 0-5 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, while the Seawolves improve to 12-1 overall and 4-1 in league play.
 
GNAC standings
The Nanooks are in 11th in the GNAC, while the Seawolves climb to second place in the league. Alaska's opponent on Saturday, Montana State University Billings, is in sixth place with a 2-2 GNAC mark and 6-4 overall record.
 
Inside the box score
  • The Nanooks opened the game with a sizzling shooting performance, hitting 72.7 percent of their shots in the opening quarter, including 2-for-3 from 3-point range. UAA surged late in the quarter to take a 23-19 lead.
  • Overall, Alaska hit 51 percent of its shots, including 7-for-15 from long range.
  • The Nanooks bench chipped in 23 points, along with seven rebounds and six assists. 
Alaska leaders
  • Senior guard Angela Murnion led the Nanooks with 18 points, while adding three rebounds and two assists. The Grass Range, Montana, student-athlete also led the team with 36 minutes on the court.
  • Senior forward Ashlie Blackburn topped the Nanooks with five rebounds off the bench.
  • Senior guard Emily Evans and junior guard Kylie Wallace each had 12-point outings. Wallace went 4-for-5 from the field, while Evans went 3-for-5 from behind the arc.

The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will host Montana State Billings at 3 p.m. AKST on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Alaska Airlines Court.
