FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team dropped a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Western Oregon Wolves 97-80 at the Alaska Airlines Court in Fairbanks. The loss drops Alaska's overall record to 4-7 and 1-3 in conference play, while the Wolves improve to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in league matchups.
GNAC Standings
The Nanooks sit tied for eighth place with four other GNAC teams, while the Wolves sit tied for first place in the league rankings with four other teams. Alaska's upcoming opponents, Seattle Pacific and Saint Martin's, both sit tied for first place in the GNAC standings, as well.
Inside the Box Score
- The Nanooks shot 51.7 percent from the floor (30-for-58), 33.3 percent from three-point range (5-for-15) and 83.3 percent from the free throw line (15-for-18).
- Alaska pulled down a game-high seven offensive boards and 24 defensive boards to tally a game-high 31 rebounds on the day.
- The Nooks also chipped in 15 assists, four blocks and three steals.
- Despite being outscored 54-36 in the first half, Alaska came back and outshot their opponent 44-43.
- Three Nanooks registered double-digit figures, while three of the WOU Wolves tallied double-digits, as well.
Alaska Leaders
- The Nanooks were led by junior guard Spencer Sweet, who tallied a game-high 20 points
- Sweet shot 7-for-14 from the field, 2-for-6 from beyond the arc and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
- Sweet also chipped in five rebounds and one assist in 30 minutes on the court on Saturday afternoon.
- Following closely behind was junior forward Michael Kluting, who shot 8-for-12 from the floor and 2-for-3 from the free throw line to tally 18 points against the Wolves.
- Kluting led his teammates in rebounding, registering seven boards, while also picking up one block and one steal.
- Junior guard Tymoryae Glover was the only other Alaska player to tally double-digits on Saturday, shooting 4-for-7 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line to post 10 points.
- Junior guard Jaqua Morrow led his teammates in assists with three, a season-best for the newcomer.
Next Time Out
The Alaska Nanooks will hit the road for a pair of GNAC contest next week, taking on the Seattle Pacific Falcons on Thursday, Jan. 10 at the Brougham Pavilion in Seattle before facing the Saint Martin's Saints in Lacey, Washington on Saturday, Jan. 12. Both games have tip-off scheduled for 6pm AKST.
