Clan's Shooting Bests @NanooksWBB

BURNABY, B.C. – Simon Fraser's hot shooting helped the Clan defeat the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team 85-48 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest at the West Gymnasium in Burnaby. The loss drops Alaska's overall record to 3-14 and 0-11 in conference play, while the Clan improves to 12-6 overall and 8-3 GNAC.

The Nooks shot 32.3 percent from the floor (20-for-62), 12.5 percent from outside (2-for-16) and 66.7 percent from the free throw line (6-for-9). On the other end of the court, Simon Fraser shot 45.6 percent from the field (31-for-68), 36.7 percent from beyond the arc (11-for-30) and 70.6 percent from the free throw line (12-for-17).

Alaska picked up 13 offensive and 24 defensive rebounds, totaling 37 boards on the night. The Nooks also chipped in 12 assists and five steals.

Three Nanooks tied for a team-best 10 points against the Clan, including senior forward Ashlie Blackburn, senior guard Emily Evans and senior forward Marian Wamsley.

Blackburn shot 5-for-12 from the floor and picked up four rebounds, two steals and one assist in 26 minutes on the floor. Evans shot 4-for-8 from the field, including 2-for-4 from outside, while also registering a team-best three assists and one steal.

Wamsley shot 5-for-15 from the field and tallied a team-best eight rebounds against the Clan.

The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 2, as they travel to Bellingham, Washington to take on the Western Washington Vikings at the Carver Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 6pm AKST.
