@NanooksWBB Falls to SMU 83-74

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team continues to hunt for their first Great Northwest Athletic Conference win of the season, as the Nooks fell 83-74 to the Saint Martin's Saints at the Alaska Airlines Court on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Alaska's overall record to 3-11 and 0-10 in GNAC play, while the Saints improve to 4-14 on the season and 2-8 in conference contests.

Coach's Comments
"I'm not quite sure what it was today, but we didn't come out today with the same intensity we had on Thursday. We had a great second half but you can't expect to dig yourself in that hole and comeback every time. We fought back to within two and then had a couple of defensive lapses but we just couldn't finish it." – head coach Kerri Nakamoto said on Saturday.

Inside the Box Score
  • Alaska shot 43.3 percent from the floor (26-for-60), 52.6 percent from outside (10-for-19) and 60 percent from the free throw line (12-for-20).
  • The Nanooks tallied six offensive and 27 defensive rebounds to total 33 boards on the day, while also chipping in 19 assists and seven steals.
  • Despite being outscored 26-7 in the first quarter, the Nooks outshot their opponent in the next three, 16-15, 21-16 and 30-26.
  • A total of four Nanooks scored double-digit figures on Saturday.
Alaska Leaders
  • Senior forward Emily Evans led the Nanooks offensively, shooting 4-for-9 from the floor, all three-point buckets, and 5-for-5 from the free throw line to tally a team-best 17 points.
  • Evans also picked up two assists in 38 minutes on the court.
  • Senior forward Marian Wamsley picked up her second-straight double-double on Saturday, registering 13 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Senior forward Ashlie Blackburn and redshirt-junior Sabrina Ungaro also tallied double-digit points against the Saints, posting 12 and 11, respectively.
  • Ungaro led all players on Saturday in assists, posting eight.
