FAIRBANKS, Alaska- On Wednesday, Alaska Nanooks associate head swimming coach Becca Weiland announced the addition of Caroline McCormick, who signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Nanooks swimming program in the fall of 2019.

11209"Caroline is a great representation of what it takes to be a high-achieving student-athlete," Weiland said on Wednesday. "She gets the work done in both the classroom and in the pool, and that is what it takes to be a successful student-athlete here at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Her competitive drive in the pool will surely have an immediate impact on our swim program and we are thrilled that she will be a Nanook in the fall of 2019."
A native of Missoula, Montana, McCormick comes to the University of Alaska Fairbanks after placing within the top-six individually in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events at the 2018 Montana State High School Association's Swimming State Championships.

As a member of the Missoula YMCA swim team, McCormick currently holds four team records in the 200-yard freestyle, the 200-yard breaststroke, the 200-yard individual medley and the 50-meter butterfly events. While representing the Missoula YMCA swim team, McCormick was the 2018 Montana Short Course Champion in the 50-meter butterfly.

Furthermore, McCormick has also represented the state of Montana at the 2017 and 108 Western Zones Swimming Championships in numerous events, including the distance and breaststroke events.

McCormick will arrive on the UAF campus next fall with numerous AP credits under her belt, while also ranking within the top 10 percent of her class and currently earning a 3.8 grade point average. McCormick plans to major in Psychology.

If McCormick were on the Alaska Nanooks swim team in last year's Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference Championships last season, she would have boasted C-final appearances in the 200-yard breaststroke, the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 1,650-yard freestyle events.
