COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Alaska Nanooks swim program was honored for its academic excellence during the 2018 fall semester on Tuesday, as it was named a Division II Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
The Nanooks put together a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average during the fall term, which ranked 54th out of all the Division II women's programs.
Alaska was also one of six Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference schools to be named to the list, which included Azusa Pacific (3.38), Biola (3.72), Cal State East Bay (3.21), Concordia Irvine (3.43) and Fresno Pacific (3.09).
"The Nanook swimmers did an excellent job in the classroom last semester, not only did they put in a large amount of hard work in the water, but it's also clearly evident that they got the job done in the classroom too," associate head coach
Becca Weiland said on Tuesday. "Now that we got one successful semester under our belt this year, I'm eager to see what we can do this upcoming semester."
The award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester and again in the spring to recognize teams achieving a 3.0 in the semester coinciding with the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CCCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Alaska Nanooks swim team is back in action this weekend at the Patty Center Pool, as they host PCSC rival Loyola Marymount in a two-day meet on Friday, Jan. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 26. Friday's meet is scheduled for 6pm AKST, while Saturday is set for 12pm AKST. Saturday will also serve as Senior Day for
