COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Alaska Nanook Rifle team claimed second in close tri-match against the Ole Miss Rebels and the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Rebels claimed the top spot with an aggregate total of 4659, the Nanooks followed only two points behind with an aggregate total of 4657, and the Buckeyes took third with a total of 4643.

The Nanooks registered the top air rifle score, topping Ole Miss 2353-2351. Sophmore, Haley Castillo claimed the top air rifle spot with a 593. Senior, J.T. Schnering registered a 592 to tie for the second air rifle spot with Ole Miss' Abby Buesseler and Hayley Carroll and OSU's Rhiann Travis.

The Nanooks recorded a smallbore score of 2304 to take second in the smallbore competition. Ole Miss shot a 2308 to secure first and Ohio State shot a 2293 to take third. Ole Miss' Abby Buesseler took the top individual for smallbore with a 583. Nanooks, Kellen McAferty and J.T. Schnering tied for second, each shooting a 579.

Nanook athletes, Schnering (1171), McAferty (1164), and Castillo (1162) all registered top ten finishes at today's competition.

"Today was a very close match, all the teams shot well." Said head coach, Layne Lewis, "It came down to just 2 points for us to end up in second place. We had three shooters in the top ten, JT and Kellen getting second in smallbore, and Haley taking air rifle. Everyone was is getting ready for our match tomorrow with Ole Miss and Akron."

The Nanooks are back in action tomorrow (Jan. 13) in tri-match against the Ole Miss Rebels and the Akron Zips at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
