BURNABY, B.C. – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team suffered another Great Northwest Athletic Conference sweep on Saturday afternoon, falling 13-25, 13-25 and 12-25 to the Simon Fraser Clan at the West Gymnasium. The loss drops Alaska's overall record to 3-10 and 1-5 in conference play, while Simon Fraser improves to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in league contests.
Redshirt-sophomore outside hitter
Markie Miller led Alaska's offense with seven kills, posting only three errors off of 21 attempts for a team-best hitting percentage of .190. Miller also contributed two digs for a team-best 8.0 points.
Sophomore setter
Cate Whiting posted 17 assists on Saturday, while also chipping in six digs, one kill and one block assist.
Defensively, Alaska was led by sophomore outside hitter
Lahra Weber, who collected seven digs, while also pitching in six kills and three block assists for 7.5 points.
As a team, the Nanooks registered 207 digs, 20 kills, 19 assists, 4.0 team blocks and three service aces.
Simon Fraser was led by Kirsten Pinkney, who tallied a match-high 13 kills. SFU setter Julia Tays registered 40 assists, while Katerina Dolguikh and Jayme Bratsberg tied for a match-high 10 digs each.
The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team will return to their home court next week, hosting the Western Oregon Wolves on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7pm AKT before taking on the Concordia Cavaliers on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1pm AKT. Both matches will take place at the Alaska Airlines Court at the Patty Center in Fairbanks.
