LACEY, Wash. – Alaska Nanooks redshirt-junior
Alex Bergholtz's top-10 overall finish highlighted the Nanooks men's and women's cross country results on Saturday, as they competed in the 2018 Ken Garland Invite hosted by Saint Martin's University in Lacey, Washington.
Bergholtz, a native of Kenai, Alaska, placed ninth overall in the women's 5km race on Saturday morning, producing a total time of 18:58.62 for nine points. Bergholtz was the only Alaska runner on the women's team to boast a sub-20 minute time.
Following Bergholtz's lead, senior
Kati Roivas crossed the finish line ranking 29th overall with a time of 20:18.46 for 27 points, while rookie
Maggie Meeds finished the race ranking 47th overall with a time of 21:10.86 for 40 points.
Rounding out Alaska's top-five runners was freshman
Kirsys Campbell (21:40.31), who finished 57th overall and freshman
Julia Murph (22:11.16) ranked 69th overall in a field of 104 harriers.
As a team, the Nanooks placed sixth overall with a total of 173 points, combining for a total time of 1:44:19.41 and an individual average time of 20:56.22.
At the time of article, the unofficial results for the men's 8km race missed two Alaska Nanooks, including sophomore
Logan Mowry and senior
Tristan Sayre, therefore, not counting the Nanook men in the team results.
The article will be updated once the official times are sent.
However, four Nooks' times were recorded on Saturday morning, including rookie
Zephan Ozturgut, who registered a time of 28:47.84, sophomore
Josiah Alverts (29:09.59), senior
Arnaud Guyon (31:31.38) and rookie Nathan Sanches (36:24.66).
The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's cross country running teams will be back in action in two weeks, as they head to Seattle, Washington to compete in the Emerald City Open, hosted by Seattle University, on Saturday, Oct. 6.
