2018-19 Schedule
FAIRBANKS, Alaska – On Tuesday, Alaska Nanooks swimming head coach
Scott Lemley officially released the program's upcoming 2018-19 schedule, which includes seven appearances at the Patty Center Pool on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.
"This is going to be an exciting season with the addition of
Rebecca Weiland, our new associate head coach," Lemley said on Tuesday. "For the first time, I'll be sharing every decision that needs to be made with another head coach. And if what they say about two heads being better than one is true, we should have a great year!"
On Saturday, Oct. 6, Alaska will host their annual Blue vs. Gold Pentathlon at the Patty Center Pool, which will feature all of the swimmers on the Nanooks' 2018-19 roster. The start time for the Blue vs. Gold Pentathlon is slated for 12pm AKT.
The Nanooks will play host to a two-meet homestand, both of which are against fellow Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference (PCSC) members. Alaska will face Azusa Pacific on Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20 before taking on Biola University on Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17. In both weekend meets, Friday's competitions will start at 6pm AKST, while Saturday's meets are set to begin at 12pm AKT.
Before the holiday break, the Nanooks will head down to Federal Way, Washington to take part in the Husky Invitational at the King County Aquatic Center Friday, Nov. 30 through Sunday, Dec. 2. The 70th annual Husky Invite is hosted by the Husky Swimming Foundation and features the top club teams in the nation, as well as swim teams in NCAA Division I, II and III.
Alaska will then travel to Los Angeles to swim in the Lion's Cup Invitational on Friday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Jan. 12, hosted by PCSC rival Loyola Marymount at the LMU Aquatic Center.
Later that month, LMU will return the favor by heading to Fairbanks for a two-day meet against the Nanooks at the Patty Center Pool on Friday, Jan. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 26. Friday's meet will be held at 6pm AKT, while Saturday will begin at 12pm AKT.
The postseason race begins Feb. 13-16, as Alaska will compete in the PCSC Championships at the Splash Aquatic Center in La Mirada, California, hosted by Biola.
If the Nooks fare well enough through the season, they will earn a trip to the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championships Mar. 13-16 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
