4/9/2018 5:18:00 PM

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The final two finalists have been selected for the head coaching position for the Alaska Nanooks hockey program and will participate in on-campus interviews starting this week.

"We had a strong pool of applicants but we feel confident that these two individuals will represent the Alaska Hockey program to the best of their abilities going forward," Alaska Nanooks Interim Athletics Director Kayne Gutierrez said on Monday.

The finalists include former Miami of Ohio assistant coach Brent Brekke and Alaska Nanooks head coach Lance West.

While on their on-campus visit, the finalists will meet with various administration, staff and faculty within the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus and its athletics department. Prior to the meeting with the team, the Alaska Nanooks will be hosting a public forum that is open to the general public. The Alaska Nanooks highly encourage members of the community, boosters, alumni and friends of the program to attend and ask questions.

Brekke's public forum will take place tomorrow (Tuesday, Apr. 10) at Noon AKT. The meet and greet will take place in the Nanook Lounge within the Patty Center on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.

More details on West's forum will be made available tomorrow, as well.

The Alaska Nanooks hockey team went 11-22-3 overall this season with a 9-17-2-1 mark in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Nanooks placed eighth in the conference this season and earned their way to the 2018 WCHA Playoffs where they lost to Minnesota State Mankato. The 2017-18 season is highlighted by four WCHA Scholar-Athletes, 16 selections for the WCHA All-Academic Team and an Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup title.
