Wolves Defeat @NanooksWBB 76-49 on the Road

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team fell in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action on Thursday night, as the Nooks dropped a 76-49 decision to the Western Oregon Wolves at the New PE Gymnasium in Monmouth. The loss drops Alaska's overall record to 4-17 on the season and 0-15 in conference play, while the Wolves improve to 9-12 on the season and 5-8 in league matchups.

As a team, Alaska shot 34.0 percent from the field (17-for-50), 38.5 percent from three-point range (5-for-13) and 62.5 percent from the free throw line (10-for-16). The Nanooks also tallied three offensive and 29 defensive boards to total 32 rebounds on the night, 10 assists, seven steals and four blocks.

Western Oregon played a gritty game against the Nanooks on Thursday, collected 34 points in the paint in comparison to Alaska's 12. The Wolves also registered 24 points off of Alaska's turnovers and 14 points off of second chances.

Sophomore guard Lexi Carpenter was the only Alaska player to score double-digit figures in Thursday's game, collecting 13 points against the Wolves. Carpenter shot 5-for-10 from the floor, 2-for-4 from beyond the arc and 1-for-2 from the free throw line while also adding five rebounds, two assists and one steal in a team-best 31 minutes on the court.

Junior guard Emily Evans and sophomore forward Brittany Richards followed closely behind with eight points each. Junior forward Sanni Salonen tied junior center Josie Sewell for a team-best six rebounds, while Richards posted a Nanook-best three assists.

Western Oregon shot 40.9 percent from the field (27-for-66), 31.3 percent from beyond the arc (5-for-16) and 73.9 percent from the free throw line (17-for-23). The Wolves were led by Kaylie Boschma, who shot 5-for-9 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free throw line to tally a game-high 15 points.

The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will travel to Portland for another GNAC tilt on the road, as they take on the Concordia Cavaliers on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Cavalier Court at 4:15pm AKST.
