@NanooksVB Closes Out 2018 Season on the Road

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team plays their final two games of a historic 2018 season this week, taking on a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponents on the road. Alaska will take on the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 5pm AKST before facing the Central Washington Wildcats on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 6pm AKST.

Last Time Out
The Alaska Nanooks hosted their final two home games of the season last week, sweeping the Saint Martin's Saints 3-0 on Thursday before downing the Seattle Pacific Falcons 3-1 on Saturday. Alaska is currently riding a three-match winning streak heading into the week.

GNAC Standings
The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team currently holds sole possession of fourth place in the GNAC standings with a 11-7 conference mark. Alaska's weekend opponents Northwest Nazarene (6-12 GNAC) and Central Washington (14-4 GNAC) rank tied for eighth and second, respectively.

Record-Breaking Season
Last Saturday's win over Seattle Pacific marks a new single-season best under fourth-year head coach Brian Scott and marks the first wins since the 2004 season. Furthermore, Saturday's win assures the 2018 season to be Alaska's first .500-or-above conference record since joining the GNAC.

All-Time Series
All-time against the CWU Wildcats, Alaska is 11-33 with the first meeting between the two teams coming as a 2-1 win on the road for the Nanooks on Oct. 18, 1980. Currently, Alaska is on a 16-match losing streak to the Wildcats dating back to Nov. 4, 2010. The Nooks' last win over Central Washington was a 3-0 sweep on Oct. 9, 2010. Alaska fell to Central Washington 3-1 in their last meeting on Sept. 6.

Alaska has met the Nighthawks a total of 36 occasions, with the all-time series record being 12-25 in favor of NNU. The first meeting between the two programs was a 2-1 win for the Nanooks on Sept. 17, 1982. Currently, the Nooks are on a five-match losing streak to the Nighthawks with Alaska's last victory being a 3-2 decision on Nov. 5, 2015. In their last meeting, Alaska fell 3-1 to the Nighthawks at home on Sept. 8.
