FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team kicks-off the 2018-19 season this week with a home exhibition game against an NCAA Division I opponent before heading to California for a pair of nonconference contests. Alaska will take on the No. 3 Oregon Ducks on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Alaska Airlines Court at 7pm AKST, before heading to the Gator Invitational to face a pair of West Region opponents Nov. 10-11.

The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team played their annual Alumni game two weeks ago, taking down the Alum in the first half before resetting the score and defeating them in the second half again. Tuesday's exhibition will be the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team's first unofficial showing the of the season.
A New Era
The 2018-19 season is the start for first-year head coach
Kerri Nakamoto, who took over the program from interim head coach Brett Sawyer last season. Nakamoto comes to the Nanooks after a stint with the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Also appearing on Nakamoto's staff will be second-year assistant coach and Fairbanks native
Jessie Craig.
GNAC Preseason Coaches Poll
The GNAC Preseason Women's Basketball Coaches Poll was released last week, placing the Nanooks in 11th place overall. The GNAC Preseason Coaches Poll was voted on by all women's basketball head coaches within the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, with the Nanooks receiving 12 points. The Nanooks concluded the 2017-18 season in 11th place within the conference with an overall record of 4-22, while going 0-20 in conference play.

The Nanooks return nine players from the 2017-18 roster, including three starters in senior guard
Emily Evans, senior guard Angela Munrion and junior guard
Kylie Wallace. Alaska also welcomes back junior forward
Ashlie Blackburn, sophomore guard
Kaylyn Kelly, junior guard
Brittany Richards, sophomore forward
Samantha Saccomen, junior guard
Sabrina Ungaro and senior forward
Marian Wamsley.
The Nanooks have one newcomer on their roster this season in freshman guard
Julie Amaktoolik.
Fairbanks Connection
With the Oregon Ducks in town, the Alaska Nanooks welcome junior forward Ruthy Hebard back to her hometown of Fairbanks. Hebard, the 2017-18 Katrina McClain award winner for the National Power Forward of the Year, played four seasons for the West Valley High School Wolfpack under
Jessie Craig, who was the head coach at the time.
Oregon Game Day Information
Tuesday's exhibition against Oregon is expected to sellout. Tickets can be purchased at the Alaska Nanooks Ticketing Office from 11am AKST to 3pm AKST. Doors will reopen at 6pm AKST with tip-off slated for 7pm AKST. Parking in the Patty Center Parking lot is free after 5pm AKST.
