Wildcats Defeat @NanooksVB 3-0 in Season Finale

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team closed out a historic 2018 season at the hands of the Central Washington Wildcats, falling 3-0 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at the Nicholson Pavilion. The Nanooks went 15-25, 20-25 and 21-25 to conclude the season with an overall record of 14-13, going 12-8 in GNAC play, while the Wildcats improve to 22-5 overall and 16-4 in conference matches.

At the time of article, Alaska tied for fourth in the GNAC standings with Simon Fraser, each with 12 conference wins this season.

"Tough match tonight. Credit to Central Washington, they seemed to be firing on all cylinders at all the right times," head coach Brian Scott said on Saturday. "Their block made it very difficult to get anything going offensively tonight. It's obviously not how we wanted to finish the year but it doesn't take away from all that we have accomplished and the strides forward we've made. I'm anxious to get rested and healed, then get back to work, continuing to make strides toward next year. This group will be hungry for bigger and better things."

Sophomore outside hitter Lahra Weber was the only Alaska player to register double-digit kills on Saturday, boasting a team-high of 11. Weber also chipped in 12 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. The Berlin, Germany native also tallied one assist for 11.0 points.

Junior middle blocker Kim Wong finished the match with a team-best 12.0 points, collecting nine kills, one solo block and four block assists. Wong's .533 hitting percentage was the best of any player throughout the match, tallying only one error off of 15 total attempts.

Sophomore setter Cate Whiting paced Alaska's offense with 34 assists, also picking up three block assists and seven digs.

Defensively, freshman libero Makena Overbey tied Weber with 12 digs for the team-high.
