SEATTLE – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team won their third-straight Great Northwest Athletic Conference match on Thursday night, defeating the Seattle Pacific Falcons 3-2 at the Royal Brougham Pavilion. The Nanooks went 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 21-25 and 15-12 against the Falcons to improve to a 6-10 record overall and 4-5 in conference play, while SPU drops to 7-9 on the season and 5-4 in league matches.
After Thursday's match, Alaska sits tied for sixth in the league standings with Concordia, both with a 4-5 conference mark.

In Alaska's tightest match of the season, the Nanooks posted 57 team kills and only 31 errors off of 162 total attempts for a team hitting percentage of .160. The Nanooks' best set came in the fifth, as Alaska fired off eight kills and zero errors off of 16 attempts for a .500 set hitting percentage.
Alaska also edged their opponents in every major statistical category including assists (53-49), service aces (13-7), digs (73-63) and points (80.0-77.0). The Nanooks went 59-for-107 for a match sideout percentage of 55, with their best sideout set coming in the fifth where they went 9-for-12 for 75 percent.
Individually, the Nanooks were led by sophomore outside hitter
Lahra Weber, who led all players with 20 kills. Weber also picked up a match-high five aces, six digs and one assist. The Berlin, Germany native also tallied two block assists to total 26.0 points.
Redshirt-sophomore outside hitter
Markie Miller was the only other Alaska player to register double-digit kills with 10. Miller had 24 total attempts and only four errors for a match hitting percentage of .250. The Brewster, Washington native also chipped in one dig and one block assist.
Sophomore setter
Cate Whiting led all players with 47 assists, producing a double-double on the night with 11 digs. Whiting also added six kills, four block assists and one ace.
Defensively, four Alaska players registered double-digit digs led by junior right side
Mica Shenglan, who tallied a match-best 20 digs. Freshman libero
Makena Overbey followed closely behind with 15, while redshirt-sophomore outside hitter
Tatum Upchurch produced 13.

Zoey Keene, who got subbed in just to block, made her way onto the scoresheet. All the way across the board, it was an awesome night and I'm so proud of this team. Also, it was great to have our men's and women's cross country running teams in the crowd tonight, they made it seem like a home match!"
The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team continues GNAC play on the road this week, heading to Lacey, Washington for a conference matchup against the Saint Martin's Saints on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Marcus Pavilion.
