FAIRBANKS, Alaska –
The Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team made history on Friday, as the No. 5 Nooks set a new program record in team aggregate and team smallbore scores in Alaska's 4725-4687 victory over the No. 10 Ole Miss Rebels at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range. The undefeated Nanooks also saw five individual records break from four different shooters.

Alaska's team aggregate score of 4725 is now a program-best after breaking the previous record of 4712 from Feb. 21, 2015. Furthermore, Alaska's smallbore team score of 2350 defeats the previous record of 2346 from Feb. 21, 2015. Alaska was close to a team score sweep, as the Nooks registered a 2375 in air rifle, only one point behind the program's team air rifle record of 2376, which was set on Nov. 23, 2016.

"We rocked today, I'm so proud of this team," head coach Layne Lewis said on Friday. "We had numerous personal-bests shot by the team, which led to a new program record in two different team categories. This was a great and competitive match with both teams shooting program-bests. Everyone came together and performed at their best and I couldn't be more proud. We are excited to carry this momentum over into our match with West Virginia on Sunday."

Redshirt-senior Sagen Maddalena shot a 590 in smallbore and a 599 in air rifle to post an aggregate total of 1189, which ties her personal-best and the program's individual aggregate record from Oct. 14 of this season. Maddalena led all shooters in both smallbore and air rifle to be the highest individual shooter of the match for the sixth time this season.

In smallbore, Maddalena was followed by sophomore Liam Eberhart, who shot a 588 for a career-high. Also collecting a career-best in smallbore was junior JT Schnering, who shot a 586, beating his previous personal-best of 584.

Sophomore Amy Gentry shot a 573 in smallbore while senior Luke Johnson tallied a 586 to aid Alaska's new program record in the discipline.

In air rifle, Maddalena's 599 ties her personal-best, while Johnson shot a career-high of 598 to beat his previous personal-best score of 597. Gentry shot a 581, while Schnering shot a 592 and junior Robert Scott added a 586 to score for the Nooks in air rifle.

The Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team will take on the defending national champion and No. 1-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers in a nonconference match at 8:30am AKST at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range on Sunday, Jan. 21.
