Early Lead Helps SPU Falcons Defeat @NanooksWBB

SEATTLE – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team dropped their sixth-straight contest on Thursday night, as the Nooks fell 86-54 to the Seattle Pacific University Falcons in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at the New Broughham Pavilion in Seattle. The loss drops the Nanooks overall record to 4-11 and 0-9 in conference play, while the Falcons improve to 13-3 on the season and 7-2 in league matchups.

Turning Point
A tough first quarter proved to be the difference-maker on Thursday, as the Falcons outscored Alaska 21-4 in the first 10 minutes of the game. From that moment forward, Alaska hung with Seattle Pacific in the three remaining quarters, being outscored by only seven (19-12), four (19-15) and four points (27-23), respectively.

Inside the Box Score
  • Sophomore guard Kylie Wallace shot 8-for-14 from the field to collect a career-high 16 points against the Falcons. The Petersburg, Alaska native's 16 points against the Falcons is two more points than Wallace's combined season points from the 2016-17 season (14).
  • Wallace also led Alaska in rebounding, collecting seven defensive boards for a team-best.
  • Junior guard Emily Evans tied Wallace's 16-point effort for a game-high, as the Cheyenne, Wyoming native shot 6-for-9 from the field, 2-for-4 from beyond the arc and 2-for-3 from the free throw line.
  • As a team, Alaska shot 44.2 percent from the floor (23-for-52), 28.6 percent from three-point range (2-for-7) and 54.5 percent from the free throw line (6-for-11).
  • The Nooks also tallied four offensive and 26 defensive boards to total 30 on the night, 12 assists and five steals.
  • Seattle Pacific had five players score double-digit figures on Thursday, led by Julia Haining, who shot 6-for-9 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the free throw line to tally a team-best 14 points.

The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will continue their conference road trip with a GNAC matchup against the Saint Martin's Saints in Lacey on Saturday, Jan. 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm AKST.
