@NanooksWBB Returns to the Patty to Host Cavs, Wolves

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – After almost a month of road games, the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team returns to the Alaska Airlines Court this week for a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference games. The Nooks will host the Concordia Cavaliers on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 7pm AKST before facing the Western Oregon Wolves on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1pm AKST.

Last Time Out
The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team only played one game last week, as they took on the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets last Thursday in Billings. The Nanooks lost their third-straight game, falling 86-56 at the Alterowitz Gymnasium.

GNAC Standings
The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team is still hunting for their first GNAC win of the season, as they hold a 0-6 record in league contests. The Nanooks currently sit in 11th place, only one win behind 10th place's Saint Martin's.

All-Time Series
All-time against the Cavaliers, the Nanooks are 3-3 with the first meeting between the two teams coming as a 82-66 loss at home on Feb. 4, 1983. Alaska is currently on a one-game losing streak against the Cavs, with their last meeting resulting in a 59-55 loss at home for the Nanooks on Feb. 4, 2017, exactly 24 years after their first meeting.

The Nanooks trail 19-27 against the Western Oregon Wolves, with the first meeting coming as a 68-65 loss on the road on Jan. 17, 1977. The Nanooks defeated the Wolves in their last meeting 79-65 at home on Feb. 2, 2017.

Three Nanooks rank within the top-10 individually within the conference in four different statistical categories: Scouting the Opponent – Concordia (10-4 Overall, 4-2 GNAC)
Concordia is currently on a four-game win streak after upending Western Washington (70-61) and Simon Fraser (79-69) last week. Senior guard Danielle Hartzog was named the GNAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week this week after averaging 25 points, 7.5 rebounds, three assists and 3.5 steals over the Cavs' last two games. Her 15 field goals made tied for third in GNAC history for most field goals made in a single game and she ranks second in the conference in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game. Concordia is third in the GNAC with 71.6 points per game and has limited conference opponents to a GNAC-best 36.3 percent from the field. In the latest D2SIDA West Region rankings, Concordia is among five GNAC teams ranked within the top-10 at No. 7.

Scouting the Opponent – Western Oregon (6-8 Overall, 2-4 GNAC)
Western Oregon split last week, falling to Simon Fraser 81-67 before bouncing back and defeating Western Washington 54-50 two days later. Senior guard Kennedy Corrigan led the Wolves with 17 points per game over the two contests, including an 18-point effort against Western Washington. Corrigan is tied for fourth in the GNAC, shooting 41.5 percent (11-for-17) from beyond the arc. The Wolves lead the conference and ranks 18th in NCAA Division II with 77.1 free throw percentage (175-227).
