BURNABY, B.C. – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team saw their losing streak extend to three games as they fell 3-0 to the Simon Fraser Clan in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at the West Gym in Burnaby on Thursday night. Alaska went 15-25, 11-25 and 20-25 against Simon Fraser, which drops the Nooks' overall record to 10-14 and 3-12 in conference play while the Clan improves to 12-11 overall and 9-6 GNAC.
"We were completely out of sync tonight," head coach
Brian Scott said on Thursday. "We played poorly and had little execution and effort on the court. Just a little change gave us some hope in the third but we never had it all going together at the same time. When we did get some momentum swing, we broke down. We will regroup and focus for the next match."
Alaska was led offensively by redshirt-freshman outside hitter
Markie Miller, who posted a team-high eight kills. Miller's eight kills and only three errors off of 28 total attempts tallied a team-high .179 hitting percentage.
Redshirt-senior outside hitter
Maddie Davis and freshman outside hitter
Lahra Weber followed Miller's offensive efforts with four kills each.
Senior setter
Rachel Nichols registered a team-high 15 assists while also chipping in six digs, a game-high three aces and two kills on the night.
Defensively, Weber and sophomore libero
Jenna Hickel tallied a team-best eight digs each against the Clan.
Simon Fraser was led by Christine Howlett, who posted a game-high 14 kills while setter Julia Tays collected a game-high 34 assists. Defensively, SFU was led by Katie Dolguikh, who tallied 20 digs against Alaska's offense.
The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team will look to rebound from Thursday's loss against one of the top teams in the nation on Saturday, as they take on the No. 8 Western Washington Vikings at 6pm AKT in Bellingham, Washington.
