FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team extends their losing streak to 11 games, as they fell in three sets to Simon Fraser University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at the Alaska Airlines Court on Saturday afternoon. The Nooks went 17-25, 18-25 and 17-25 against the SFU Clan, dropping to an overall record of 2-17 (1-11 GNAC), while the Clan improves to 13-8 overall (8-4 GNAC).
As a team, Alaska recorded 24 kills to Simon Fraser's 45, collecting a hitting percentage of .077. The Nooks tied the Clan in blocks, with each team totaling 9.0 on the day, but it was Simon Fraser who out-did the Nooks in digs (60-42), points (59.0-35.0) and assists (45-24). Alaska's best performance came in the third set when the Nooks posted a .133 hitting percentage and a 50% sideout percentage.
Sophomore outside hitter Amberly Jeane led the team's offense with 9.0 points, registering a tied team-high five kills, four digs, two solo blocks, two block assists and one service ace. Freshman middle blocker Kim Wong tallied 8.0 points from five kills, four block assists, three digs and one solo block. Freshman outside hitter Tatum Upchurch also totaled five kills on the day, six digs and one block assist, while also contributing the team-high hitting percentage of .235.
Junior setter Rachel Nichols posted a team-high 21 assists, marking her 12th-straight game with 20-or-more assists, while redshirt-senior libero Meagan posted the team-high 11 digs.
Simon Fraser's Emma Jennings posted the game-high 14 kills on the day, while Tessa May chipped in 12. The Clan's setter Tamara Nipp had 37 assists, while libero Alison McKay recorded 25 digs.
The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team heads 365 miles South for a conference matchup against in-state rival Alaska Anchorage on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7pm AKT.
