NAMPA, Idaho – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team couldn't hold off the Northwest Nazarene Crusaders in Thursday evening's Great Northwest Athletic Conference match, falling to NNU in three sets 20-25, 19-25 and 14-25. The Nanooks extend their losing streak to eight games, falling to an overall record of 2-15 (1-8 GNAC), while the Crusaders improve to 12-4 overall (5-4 GNAC).
As a team, the Nanooks posted 35.0 points, 27 kills, four aces, four blocks, 25 assists and 25 digs. Statistically, Alaska posted their best hitting percentage of the night in the first set with a .103.
Junior outside hitter Angela Molesworth and freshman middle blocker Kim Wong led the Nanooks' offense on Thursday, recording seven kills each. Junior middle blocker Riley Podowicz was ranked right behind Molesworth and Wong with five kills. Northwest Nazarene's Kendra Bodine handily led the Crusaders' offense, registering 20 kills.
Podowicz collected a game-high four blocks, with Molesworth tallying two and junior outside hitter Maddie Davis recording one block. Junior setter Rachel Nichols recorded 23 assists on the night, leading the Nanooks, while NNU's Hailey Cook recorded a game-high 36 assists.
While three Crusaders tallied ten digs each, Alaska was led by Davis, sophomore outside hitter Amberly Jeane and redshirt-senior Meagan Olsen, as each Nook chipped in six digs each.
Alaska is now tied for last place in the conference standings with Montana State Billings (1-8), while Northwest Nazarene ranks fifth in the conference with a 5-4 record.
The Alaska Nanooks travel to Ellendburg, Washington for a GNAC match-up against Central Washington University on Saturday, Oct. 15. The first serve is scheduled for 6pm AKT.
