Nanook Swimmers Place Sixth in Tough PCSC; Margot Adams Fifth Overall Individually

LA MIRADA, Calif. - The Alaska swim team wrapped the Pacific Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference Championships with a sixth place finish on Saturday in Southern California. Margot Adams finished as the fifth highest point scoring individual as she closed out a strong showing this week.

Alaska's 774 points put it in sixth place overall, just behind Fresno Pacific's 790. 5The University of California - San Diego won the PCSC with a score of 1453 while Loyola Marymount came in second with 1222 points. Cal State East Bay (824) and Azusa Pacific (820.5) rounded out the top-five.

M. Adams scored 87 points, which put her in a tie for fifth place overall and just one point behind fourth-place. UC San Diego's Stephanie and Loyola Marymount's Kjirsten Magnuson topped the leaderboard with 92 points.

Gabi Summers placed in the top-20 at 17th with 72 points while Victoria Adams finished 24th overall with 68 points. Martha Hood also finished in the top-30 individually with 64 points putting her at 29th place.

For the day, M. Adams led five Nanooks in the 100 freestyle as she placed second in a time of 51.38. Hood finished ninth in the 100 free with a time of 52.3 while Katie Stark placed 11th in the race in 52.93. Danielle Lyons (24th/54.88) and Noelle Graham (30th/54.42) also finished for the Nanooks.

Also turning in top-ten performances for Alaska was Summers and V. Adams in the 200 backstroke, Kathryn Pound in the mile and the 400 freestyle relay team of Lyons, Hood, Summers and M. Adams.

Summers placed fourth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.14 with V. Adams placing eighth in 2:05.97. Pound put in a tenth-place finish in the mile with a time of 17:55.79. Alaska's relay team finished third overall with a time of 3:27.87.

Alaska now awaits news of who will qualify for the NCAA Championships which begin March 11 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Margot Adams, who earned a NCAA "A" Cut yesterday in the 100 butterfly automatically qualifies in that event.
