ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Freshman
Logan Hanneman was the top finisher for the men and sophomore
Raphaela Sieber led the women as the Alaska Nanooks put themselves to the test against their West Region opponents on the first day of the Alaska Anchorage Invite on Saturday morning at Kincaid Park.
Hanneman took fifth overall and was fourth among collegiate skiers, completing the five-kilometer interval start classic race in 14 minutes and 25 seconds, 21 seconds behind the race champion Brent Knight of Alaska Pacific University. Former Nanook
David Norris, now of Montana State University, was the collegiate champion and second overall 14:06.
Rounding out Alaska's top three men were junior
Tyler Kornfield in 7th (14:30) and senior Erik Soederstroem in 16th overall (14:42.9).
Alaska's other racers included fresham Jonas Loffler (21st, 14:54), senior
Ian Wilkinson (28th, 15:18), freshmen
Ludwig Schott (34th, 15:39) and
Andrew Arnold (38th, 15:47) and senior
Alex Morris (42nd, 16:28).
For the women, Sieber was 13th and 12th, respectively, crossing in 17 minutes and 37 seconds. Colorado's Eliska Hajkova took the crown in 16:34. Crossing next for the Blue and Gold was sophomore

The Nanooks return to Fairbanks for a few days before venturing south on their next road trip in Michigan, which will take them to Houghton for the CCSA Championships (Feb. 11-12) and Ishpeming for the NCAA Central Region Championships (Feb. 17-18).
