– The Alaska women's swim team saw its seven-meet win streak end Friday night as Cal State East Bay won five individual events en route to a 108-96 victory at the Patty Center Pool.

The Nanooks (2-1) won four individual races as well as both relays. Leading the way was junior Bente Heller (Hamburg, Germany/Communications), who had two solo victories and one relay win, and sophomore Gabi Summers (Cheyenne, Wyo./Wildlife Biology and Conservation), who had one individual and two relay wins.

Heller took first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of one minute, 55.22 seconds and also hit the wall first in the 100 free in 52.11 seconds. Summers' lone individual win came in the 500 free, as she won by nearly six seconds in 5:14.41.

The duo, along with sophomores Danielle Lyons (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan/Biological sciences) and Kelly Meierotto (North Pole, Alaska/Anthropology) won the final event of the evening, the 200 free relay, with a time of 1:41.07.

Summers also won the opening event, the 400 medley relay, with freshman Eileen Audette (Seward, Alaska/Fisheries) and sophomores Margot Adams (Anchorage, Alaska/Political science) and Lindsey Krause (Kent, Wash./Biology). The tandem touched the wall in 4:07.24 to give the Nanooks the early lead.

Also picking up a win on Friday was Adams, who cruised in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 56.86. She also took second by fractions of a second in 24.95. The 'Nooks also claimed two other runner-ups and three thirds.

The Pioneers (4-0) got a pair of wins from Alyssa Tenney, who was the top swimmer in the 200 individual medley (2:14.24) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.56). The three other individual wins came from Rachel Shimizu in the 1,000 free (10:53.86), Caitlin Denise in the 50 free (24.68) and Courtney Schwiesow in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.99).

CSUEB was aided by six seconds and six third-place finishes.

The two teams return to the pool Saturday afternoon at noon (AKST). Live video will be available through the Nanooks' Stretch Internet Game Central portal.
