Nanooks outpaced, 3-0, by Sea Warriors

Box Score HONOLULU, Hawaii – For the third time in as many games the Nanooks found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard, this time falling 3-0 (15-25, 15-25, 23-25) to the Hawaii Pacific Sea Warriors.

“We're doing some good things on the court,” said twelfth year head coach Phil Shoemaker, “but we're not being consistent enough with our good play to earn a win.”

Alaska could seemingly find no openings against the defense of the Sea Warriors, as evident by their hitting percentage of .000.

“We knew coming in that it was going to be tough,” said Shoemaker. “We have a lot of young players this year and this is their first taste of the college game so they don't necessarily know what to expect.”

Jaxon Hill (Clam Gulch, Alaska) enjoyed a well-played contest, finishing with five kills on 11 attempts for a .455 attack percentage. The freshmen also picked up two blocks during the match.

“The teams we've played were good teams,” added Shoemaker, “but by no means were they great. We've just got to keep growing and learning with each match that we play.”

Casey Tidwell (Redlands, Calif.) continued her torrid start in the middle of the front line with four blocks during the match while Becky Martin (Cochrane, Alberta) contributed two of the four service aces for the Nanooks.

The blue and gold will wrap up their Hawaiian excursion later tonight when they hope to salvage one win as they go up against the Seasiders of BYU-Hawaii. The match is set to begin at 9:30 p.m.
