Skiers Tied With UAA After Day 1 Of Nordic Cup

ANCHORAGE, Alaska
- The Alaska Nanooks are tied with the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves after the first day of the 2011 Nordic Cup. The teams are knotted at 21 points apiece after Saturday's races at Hillside Park.

Alaska's men dominated their five kilometer interval start classic race, sweeping the top three spots, while UAA's men finished 4-5-6. Rookie Logan Hanneman led the Blue and Gold, completing the course in 13 minutes and 47 seconds. Senior Erik Soederstroem finished just a second later (13:48) and junior Tyler Kornfield was third in 13:50.

Also racing for the Nanooks were freshmen Jonas Loffler (4th, 14:09) and Ludwig Schott (6th, 14:20), sophomore Lars Arneson (7th, 14:38), senior Alex Morris (9th, 14:40) , senior Ian Wilkinson (10th, 14:51) and freshmen Andrew Arnold (12th, 15:06) and Wyatt Mayo (15th, 16:40).

On the women's side, UAA finished 1-2-3 with Jaime Bronga winning the 5K event in 16:10. Alaska senior Rebecca Konieczny led the Blue and Gold with a fourth-place finish in 17:25, while junior Marit Rjabov was fifth in 17:26 and sophomore Heidi O'Connor-Book was seventh in 18:14.

Today's races, originally scheduled for 11:15 a.m., were postponed to 2 p.m. due to inclement weather.

The teams return to the trails tomorrow at 11:15 a.m., weather permitting. The women's will skate a 5K followed by the men's 10K skate race.
