V-Ballers Drop Third Straight at MSUB, 3-1

The volleyball team dropped its third consecutive conference contest and fell to 4-8 (2-4 GNAC) Thursday at Montana State-Billings. Alaska won set one, but even in doing so, they never led by more than three points.

 

The second set was a different story. The Yellowjackets were able to take a stronger hold on the game and broke away from a 5-5 tie without surrendering the lead. The Yellowjackets were able to make an 8-0 run to double over the Nanooks 20-10.

 

The third set played up to 26 points for the Yellowjackets, but a pair of service aces sealed the win, and the Nanooks were down 2-1.

 

The Yellowjackets stormed in with a 6-0 run in the final set that would eventually lead to the match win.

 

Tereza Bendlova led with 17 kills on 36 attacks. Marybeth Wikander followed with another seven. Allison Oddy and Jennifer Holland each through in a pair of service aces. Mandy Grierson finished with 36 assists.

 

On defense, Jordyn Montgomery led with 16 digs. Allison Oddy followed with 12. Grierson, Wikander and Erica Gage had a block solo and block assist each.

 

The Nanooks return to action Saturday at Seattle Pacific. They return to the Patty Center Thursday to take on Northwest Nazarene at 7 p.m.
