Alaska Rifle Takes Smallbore Crown On First Day of NCAA Championships

The Alaska Nanooks rifle team got off to a great start at the 2010 NCAA Men's and Women's Rifle Championships Friday, winning the team smallbore competition with an aggregate score of 2,320: good for a six-point advantage over their hosts, the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs (2314) and a 12-point cushion over the defending NCAA Rifle Champions, the West Virginia University Mountaineers.

Alaska's scoring team included seniors Patrik Sartz (Stora Sundby, Sweden) (583), Jace Bures (Odell, NE) (579) and William Galligan (Eagle River, AK) (577), and junior Cody Rutter (Palmyra, PA) (581). Sartz was the only shooter to make the 10-shot eight-person final, where he compiled a 99.7. His combined score of 682.7 on the day was second best, giving him silver in the individual smallbore competition.
