HONOLULU, HI - The Alaska Nanooks bounced back from their last lost to defeat Chaminade 3-0 late Thursday night in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Nanooks defeated the Silverswords by the identical scores of 25-20 in the first two games, before dropping game three 25-14. The Nanooks finished off Chaminade by claiming victory 25-23 in the fourth game for the win. Alaska improved to 4-4 on the season.
The Nanooks cruised early to their first two wins before the Silverswords battled back and took an early 8-1 lead in the second game and never trailed by less than six points the entire game. The Nanooks bounced back in a tight third game where the biggest lead either side would hold was three. With the score tied at 23 the Blue and Gold ran off back to back points to end the match.
The Nanooks were led by senior Megan Thigpen (Spokane, WA) who recorded a double-double with a team high 13 kills and 14 digs. Fellow senior Jessica Hill (Colorado Springs, CO) also had ten kills and added five digs. Freshman Allison Oddy (Chilliwack, BC) co-led the Nanooks in digs with 14 and also added two service aces. Alexa Sherman (Calabasas, CA) had 40 assists and seven digs for the Blue and Gold. Junior middle blocker Erica Gage (Palo Alto, CA) had very productive night with nine blocks in only four games.
For Chaminade, Whitney Vivieros and Kylee Pedro each had nine kills as Pedro and Kristy Inamasu had 11 apiece. Tanya Alvino contributed 31 assists in the loss.
The Nanooks will return to action tomorrow night when the play against Hawaii-Pacific at 9:00 PM before finishing up their Hawaii trip with two games on Saturday with games against Hawaii-Hilo and BYU Hawaii.
