CARSON, CA - The Alaska Nanooks took the court for the third day of the SoCal Classic and dropped another contest, this time to #2 Cal State San Bernardino by the score of 3-0. The Nanooks dropped the first game 25-17 before losing a hard fought 27-25 contest, and then losing the finale 25-19.
The Blue and Gold fell behind early in the first game of the contest and trailed 12-5 and CS San Bernardino never looked back. The Coyotes never led by less than six points as they took the first game.
The second game was a hotly contested match that saw 16 ties and seven lead changes with the Coyotes eventually pulling out the victory. The biggest lead of the match for either team was three as most of the match was within a point. The Nanooks grabbed a 23-21 lead late in the game but faltered down the stretch.
The third game saw the Nanooks and Coyotes again battle in a tight contest. The Blue and Gold were able to pull within one, 20-19, but then gave up the next five points to drop the third game, and the match.
The Nanooks were led by senior
Megan Thigpen (Spokane, WA) who posted a double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs. Freshman
Allison Oddy (Chilliwack, BC) contributed nine digs and senior
Alexa Sherman (Calabasas, CA) had 22 assists and five digs in the loss.
Jessica Hill and
Melissa Refuerzo had seven and six kills respectively.
The Coyotes were led by Jane Chafeh who had here own double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs. Sara Hoffman had 20 assists to go along with three digs and Samantha Middleborn had seven kills.
The Nanooks will return to action tonight to finish up in the SoCal Classic when they take the floor against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The match is set to start at 6:00 PM.
