Brian Scott enters his 11th year (10 full seasons) with the Nanooks in 2025-26 after previous assistant coaching stints at NCAA Division I programs Weber State and Utah State, where he coordinated offensive and blocking systems and served as recruiting coordinator.
At Weber State, Scott played a key role in rebuilding the program, recruiting and coaching 32 Big Sky All-Academic honorees, multiple All-Conference players, and the Big Sky Newcomer of the Year. His recruits set program records in kills, digs, assists, and blocks, and he mentored the conference’s blocking record holder along with two nationally ranked blockers.
During two seasons at Utah State, Scott helped the Aggies rise to national prominence, highlighted by a 2010 WAC Tournament title, a 24-9 record, and the development of both the WAC MVP and an All-American.
Since arriving in Fairbanks, Scott has transformed Alaska from a bottom-tier GNAC program into a consistent contender. In 2018, the Nanooks jumped from eighth to fifth in the conference, sparking the program’s first back-to-back winning seasons since 2003–04. In 2021 and 2022, Alaska posted consecutive 18-win campaigns, including a strong push in 2021 that tied the second-most wins in school history. That stretch also produced the program’s second-ever All-American, libero Jessa Long.
In 2024, Scott guided the Nanooks to their most successful season in nearly three decades, finishing 21-7 overall and 13-5 in GNAC play for a second-place finish, tying the program record for wins. The season featured milestones such as the team’s first-ever win at Western Washington, a sweep of Alaska Anchorage, and a nine-win homestand to close the year. The Nanooks set a program-best .750 winning percentage while ranking among the nation’s top blocking and offensive teams. Individually, Karli Nielson earned First-Team All-GNAC and AVCA All-America honors, Rilee White became the GNAC’s all-time service aces leader and first 1,000 kills/1,000 digs/200 aces player, and Elena Guc and Ainsley Smith added honorable mention nods.
