Biography

Cross Country Skiing

2010-11:
Norris began his collegiate skiing career with the Nanooks at the U.S. National Championships in January with a 20th place finish in the 1.4K Sprint, second for the Nanooks; in the 15K classic, Norris was the top Nanook finisher with a 44:10.7, good for 3rd place overall; due to poor snow conditions, the 30K on the final day became an 11 x 2.5K Freestyle, the second Nanook to finish with 11th place overall and a time of 1:12:37.4; his performance at the U.S. National Championships got Norris named to the USA's Under-23 World Championship team; at the NCAA Central Regional Skiing Championships in February, Norris was again the top finisher for the Nanooks with a 4th place in the 10K Freestyle with a time of 26:30.6 and came in second for the Nanooks with his 5th place finish in the 10K Classic with a 28:20.7; Norris' performance this season got him to qualify for the NCAA Skiing Championships and he was additionally named to the USCSCA All-Academic Team; at the NCAA National Skiing Championships in March, Norris was the top finisher for the Nanooks in both events, finishing 12th in the 10K Freestyle with a time of 26:53.5 and a 14th place finish in the 20K despite terrible weather conditions; was recognized for Academic Honors by the Athletic Department.



Cross Country Running


2010: Freshman Norris started off his collegiate running career strong; at the Alaska Nanook Cross Country Invitational in September, Norris was the second Nanook finisher in both the 8K and 4K with times of 27:46.0, 9th overall, and 13:31.1, 6th overall, respectively; the end of the month Norris was a member of the team that traveled to Hawaii for the Chaminade Invitational, again the second Nanook to complete the course with a time of 27:48.25 in the 8K, finishing 15th place overall; a member of the GNAC Championship team as a freshman in November, Norris helped the Nanooks to their 7th place conference finish with a season best in the 8K in a time of 26:55.30, good for 36th place overall; was recognized for Academic Honors by the Athletic Department.



Prior to Alaska: Member of FAST for 6 years; placed 4th in state for XC Skiing; received the Wendys Heisman Award in 2009; member of the Top Junior Male Club for 2009 by USSA.

Personal: Son of Don and Melanie Norris; planning on entering the medical field, but major is undecided.
