Alex Dean enters his second year as Assistant Sports Information Director for the Alaska Nanooks in 2025-26. Dean assists Sports Information Director Nathan Pearsall with communications for all 10 Nanook programs, with responsibilities spanning statistics and records, publicity, social media, website management, game and event operations, and press releases. He also serves as the primary statistician for the Nanooks’ court sports, including men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, and hockey.
Since joining Alaska, Dean has been instrumental in the continued growth of the Nanooks’ Sports Information Department, expanding the program’s media presence and digital reach through enhanced coverage, statistical operations, and creative content initiatives.
Before arriving in Fairbanks, Dean served as an Athletic Communications Assistant at Elmira College in Elmira, N.Y., where he covered 15 varsity sports with primary responsibility for men’s and women’s soccer, women’s basketball, and men’s volleyball. His duties included managing live stats, producing graphics and motion graphics for digital platforms and video boards, coordinating social media, and contributing photography and table-crew support.
Dean previously held an Athletic Communications internship at Columbia University, where he assisted with website updates, statistical maintenance, press releases, and game recaps. He was the secondary contact for the Lions’ field hockey program and also supported broadcast and video content. Additional stops include serving as a Media Relations Intern with the Kansas City Monarchs and a Production Assistant role at Cornell University.
A native of New York, Dean graduated from Ithaca College in 2020 with a B.S. in Sports Media before earning his M.A. in Sports Communication from Emerson College in 2023.
