Nanooks Fall in Overtime at Alaska Anchorage

ANCHORAGE - The Nanooks hockey team fell to the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves on Saturday, Feb. 7. The loss drops the Nanooks to 10-15-2. 

How it Happened
Tommy Cronin opened the scoring for the second-straight night. The rookie winger picked up a power-play goal 9:39 into the first period giving Alaska an early 1-0 lead. 3:58 later, UAA tallied it's first equalizer on a Logan Acheson goal. He also scored on the power play making it 1-1 13:37 into the first. Nearly five minutes later, the Nanooks regained the lead. 

18:26 in, Jackson Anderson scored to make it 2-1 Nanooks. The lead lasted until the second period when Ethan Warrener scored the game-tying goal 1:18 into the second. The 2-2 tie lasted until the end of regulation. UAA entered the 3v3 overtime period on the power play after an Adam Cardona hitting-from-behind call. 55 seconds into the extra period, the Seawolves won on an Aiden Westin shot. The 3-2 win gave UAA two more points in the quest for the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup and the Nanooks earned one with the OT loss. 

Alaska leads the series 2-1-1 and leads the points total 8-4. 

Inside the Numbers
  • Lassi Lehti made 22 saves today in net for Alaska. The Nanooks put 27 shots on goal. 
  • The Nanooks outblocked UAA 12-11. Jackson Anderson led the Nanooks with three blocked shots. 
  • Chase Dafoe, Misha Danylov, Nathan Rickey, and Rylen Roersma all tallied assists in the game tonight. 
  • Chase Dafoe owned the faceoff circle tonight winning 14 of 21. UAA won the battle of the dot with 32 wins to Alaska's 31. 
  • The Nanooks went 1-3 on the power play and 3-5 on the penalty kill.
What's Next
Four games remain in the regular season. They are all against Alaska Anchorage. Alaska will have a bye week next weekend before continuing the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup series in Anchorage on Feb. 20-21. The series will conclude Feb. 27-28 in Fairbanks.
