FAIRBANKS – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team (0-22, 0-14 GNAC) fell to the Western Washington Vikings 60-28 on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
The Nanooks let up eight unanswered points to begin the game, with Emily Freeman giving the 'Nooks their first points of the contest with a three at the 4:49 mark. She added another three with two minutes left in the first, but that was all the scoring Alaska got in the quarter, and they entered the second down 16-6. The Nanooks got all their points in the second quarter from the free throw line, with Tamai Mancuso chipping in with a pair of free throws and Pearle Green adding three makes from the charity stripe, and the Nanooks entered the half trailing 31-11.
The Nanooks would match Western Washington's scoring in the third, with both sides posting 12 points in the period. Mancuso knocked down a three, while Chozen Horn-Young added a pair of two-point baskets, and a Genevieve Velasquez put-back made it a 43-23 game entering the final 10 minutes. WWU opened the fourth with a 15-0 run, seeing their lead grow to 58-23 before Mancuso and Horn-Young knocked down jumpers. The Nanooks would get one more point from the free-throw line and fell to the Vikings.

The Nanooks hit the road for their next two games, beginning with a matchup at Seattle Pacific on Thursday, Feb. 19. They then head over to Montana State Billings for a game on Saturday, Feb. 21.
