FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks had over 1300 fans in attendance tonight in their annual Pack the Patty whiteout against Alaska Anchorage. Despite the large and energized crowd, the Nanooks fell in three sets.
Alaska Anchorage swept the Nanooks, winning the sets 18-25, 16-25, 16-25. In the first the Nanooks posted nine kills and nine errors, swinging .000. Alaska Anchorage hit .176 with 12 kills and six errors. The Seawolves jumped out to a four-point lead before it grew to seven. Alaska pulled to within four at 14-18 on a three-point run, but after staying within four, they fell as UAA posted three straight points. In the second, UAA jumped ahead again, but the Nanooks pulled even at 6-6. Unfortunately, UAA rallied off six straight to make it 6-12. UAA stuffed the Nanooks momentum, however, and ran out to a nine-point lead and eventually won the set 16-25. Alaska jumped out to a strong start in the third, taking a 4-1 lead. They battled point-for-point, holding a 10-9 lead on a
Haylee Lyons kill. UAA scored five-straight to take a 10-14 lead and then put up six in a row making it 12-21. They went on to win the final set 16-25.
Inside the Numbers
- The Nanooks hit .059 tonight, wrapping up with 28 kills and 22 errors. UAA swung .272 as a team with 37 kills and 12 errors.
- Cori Leavitt led the Nanooks with 10 kills and a .208 swing percentage. She matched a team-high three blocks.
- Cynphany Henderson had 17 assists for the Nanooks. She added eight digs and three kills.
- Kellan Flynn led the Nanooks with 11 digs.
What's Next
The Nanooks hit the road next week for a matchup at Saint Martin's on Thursday and Western Oregon on Saturday.
