REDLANDS, Calif. - The Nanooks swimming team continued its California trip today with the Bulldog Pentathlon, held at the University of Redlands' Thompson Aquatic Center. The Nanooks placed second among women's teams, posting 240 points, while Biola placed first with 251 points.
The Nanooks won four of the five events, posted nine podium finishes and had 14 top-10 finishes. Marilia Persidou, Dorka Dancsok, Monica Botha and Cosima Schmiedel all placed first during the meet.
Persidou (59.40) and Schmiedel (59.91) kicked off the meet by finishing 1-2 in the 100-yard butterfly, with Botha (fifth, 1:00.70), Giorgia Merlo (seventh, 1:01.09) and Dancsok (eighth, 1:01.17) also placing in the top eight of the event. Botha (1:00.79) and Charisma Watkins (1:02.65) nabbed fourth and sixth in the 100-yard backstroke, respectively, with Botha missing the podium by 0.2 seconds.
The 'Nooks picked up two podium results in the 100-yard breaststroke after Dancsok and Schmiedel finished 1-2 with times of 1:07.44 and 1:07.63, with the duo leading the way by nearly two seconds. In the 100-yard freestyle, Botha and Schmiedel took the top two spots, clocking in at 54.29 and 55.23. Finally, in the 100-yard IM, Schmiedel (1:02.09), Botha (1:02.72) and Dancsok (1:02.83) swept the podium, finishing 1-2-3 to cap off the day.
The Nanooks return home next week for two dual meets vs. Azusa Pacific on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
