ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Nanooks men's basketball team fell to 8-6, 3-2 GNAC after suffering a 101-50 loss to the Central Washington Wildcats on Thursday evening.
How it Happened
The Nanooks started the game down 6-0 after going 0-8 from the field, not scoring until a Luke Fotheringham three put them on the board after 3:45. Alaska would tie things up at 10 thanks to layups by Tariq Weiser and Jalai O'Keith along with a three from Cortarius Mingo, but they could not take the lead, allowing another 6-0 Wildcats run. After they brought things level at 10, the Nanooks would go nearly eight minutes without a field goal, finding themselves down 27-12 before a Weiser layup ended the drought. O'Keith would add Alaska's third three-pointer of the half, but the Nanooks entered the halftime break trailing 42-19 after going just 7-35 from the field in the opening half.
The offensive struggles continued out of the break, beginning the second half by letting up 11 Wildcats points without an answer over the first three minutes. Tyriq Luke got the scoring started with a floater, and Weiser followed with a fastbreak layup off a Fotheringham steal. Davis Crilly connected on his first three of the night a few minutes later, but the Wildcats followed that with a 27-0 run over the next five minutes to make it 86-29. Mingo led the Nanooks with nine points over the final eight minutes of the contest.
